Topic: The Universe structure
Title: Cosmology in our backyard
Lecturer: Carlos Frenk (ICC Durham University)
Dates & times: Friday, 27 April, 2012 - 15:30
Venue: Blue Room, IFT
The LCDM cosmological model accounts surprisingly well for an impressive array of data on the large-scale structure of the universe, from scales of a few megaparsecs to a few gigaparsecs. On submegaparsec scales, however, the model cannot be tested with the same degree of rigour as on larger scales where microwave background radiation data and measures of galaxy clustering provide clean and well-understood diagnostics. Up to now science has failed to identify what makes up to 85% of the matter of the Universe. Elucidating the nature of dark matter constitutes a key challenge in modern physics.

The programme offers financial aid for outstanding students, ranging from fully funded MSc and PhD scholarships to partial covering of fees and expenses. Further information here

Topic: The Universe structure
Title: Quantum Origin of the Universe structure
Lecturer: Viatcheslav Mukhanov (LMU München)
Dates & times: Thursday, 22 March, 2012 - 15:00
Venue: Blue Room, IFT
I will discuss the predictions of the theory which explains the observed galaxies, clusters of galaxies et. cet. as originated from quantum gravitational fluctuations which were amplified in the very early universe during the stage of cosmic acceletation (inflation). I will compare these predictions with the results of the recent experiments on the measurements of the cosmic microwave background fluctuations and will discuss the future experiments.

This is a very informal gathering of European members of the "Invisibles" team, although open to interested scientists.
The aim is to foster scientific collaboration and organization of this EU Marie Curie ITN (www.invisibles.eu).
The program of scientific talks can be found at http://www.ft.uam.es/workshops/InvisiblesITNpre-meeting/

Topic: Gravitational Waves
Title: Gravitational Waves

The workshop is thought to be an opportunity to bring together the people involved in the collaboration between MultiDark and Fermi. The aim of the workshop is the study of the Dark Matter implications of the Fermi-LAT measurement of the angular power spectrum of anisotropies in the gamma-ray diffuse emission.
