Abstract:

Extensions of the Standard Model in which the Higgs particle is a composite state of a new strong interaction can be studied using lattice gauge theory techniques. Its lightness in such theories has a natural explanation if it is a pseudo Nambu-Goldstone boson arising from flavor symmetry breaking in the new strong sector, or if it is a "dilatonic" meson associated with approximate scale symmetry. This talk will consider both scenarios in the context of recent results on the lattice.
