Abstract:

Sixth meeting in a series where PhD students of physics talk about their research. We want to create a friendly atmosphere where the youngest researchers can practice giving a talk about their work. For this reason, seniors are supposed not(!) to attend.

Álvaro Herráez will talk about:

After an introduction to axions and Minkowski 3-forms in the context of Kaloper-Sorbo Lagrangians we will show how their properties can be translated into a Higgs mass that scans in a landscape. 2 different toy models, a minimal one and a SUSY one will be presented in order to show how this mechanisms works. Finally, some bounds related to the stability of these vacua and the Weak Gravity Conjecture will be presented.

Sara Saa will talk about:

In connection to the electroweak hierarchy problem, or how to protect the Higgs mass against quantum corrections as compared to other higher scales to which the Higgs field may be sensitive, the motivation and phenomenology of a linear sigma model extended to incorporate a Higgs (so it can be explained as a pseudo-Goldstone boson) is discussed.
