Abstract: In this talk I will discuss constant classical electric fields and the Schwinger effect in de Sitter space, which has potential implications for magnetogenesis and inflationary dark matter production. I will first go through the conditions for sustaining a constant electric field in de Sitter space before reviewing the calculation of the Schwinger current, pointing out puzzling results in previous calculations found in the literature and how we have resolved them. I will then comment on current and future directions related to this topic. This talk is based on arXiv:2508.14973.
