Seminar: ‘Quantum computing for lattice gauge theories: from the Schwinger model to an SO(3) Quantum Link model’

April 30 | 15:00 - 16:00

Title: Quantum computing for lattice gauge theories: from the Schwinger model to an SO(3) Quantum Link model

Speaker: Bipasha Chakraborty (University of Southampton)

Venue&Time: Red Room / 15:00

Abstract: Quantum computing provides a promising framework for simulating strongly coupled gauge theories relevant to high-energy physics. In this talk, I will discuss quantum simulations of lattice gauge theories, focusing on the Schwinger model as a benchmark Abelian system and on a non-Abelian SO(3) gauge theory formulated as a quantum link model. I will outline gauge-invariant encodings and circuit implementations suitable for near-term devices, and comment on prospects for using quantum algorithms to study real-time dynamics and other regimes challenging for classical methods.
