Title: “Entanglement as a tool in quantum field theory”

Abstract: Entanglement entropy and other information measures can be regarded as non conventional tools in QFT. After describing their general properties, arising from simple heuristic considerations, we will show applications to irreversibility theorems with and without the presence of defects. These theorems establish the irreversibility of the renormalization group flow, marking the loss of “degrees of freedom” from short to long scales. We will show how other quantum information theory quantities can be used to talk about symmetries, and lead to an algebraic reformulation of some older ideas such as modular invariance and confinement.
