SUMMARY:4º ESO + Empresa Programme at IFT
DESCRIPTION:As part of the 4º ESO + Empresa educational programme\, the Instituto de Física Teórica (IFT) will host a group of secondary-school students from 23 to 26 March. \nDuring their stay\, students will participate in a series of outreach and educational activities designed to provide a general introduction to theoretical physics research and the day-to-day work carried out at the institute. The programme will include interactive talks\, workshops\, and guided discussions on selected topics in contemporary physics. \nThe aim of this initiative is to familiarise students with the research environment of a theoretical physics institute and to offer them a broad perspective on current scientific questions and research practices. \nTutors / CoordinatorsÁngel Uranga UrteagaAlberto Casas GonzálezCarlos Pena RuanoLaura Marcos MateosCarolina Saggiomo Blanco \nMore info: https://workshops.ift.uam-csic.es/esoempresa

SUMMARY:3rd EDI Training: Gender Perspective in Science
DESCRIPTION:3rd EDI Training – IFT Equity\, Diversity and Inclusion Comitee Training Series \nSpeaker: Alejandra Gámez Abascal\, researcher at the CBM. Chair of CBM Equality Committee. Member of Instituto Universitario de Estudios de la Mujer (IUEM). \nTítulo: ‘Gender Perspective in Science and Research’ \nVenue&Time: Blue Room / 11:00 \nCoffee: 12:30 at the CFTMAT cafeteria. \nAbstract: \nIn recent years\, integrating a gender perspective into science and research has become a key priority within the European Research Area and international research policies. Beyond promoting equal opportunities\, the gender dimension contributes to improving the quality\, relevance\, and impact of scientific knowledge.\nThis seminar will introduce key concepts and definitions related to gender equality in order to provide a conceptual framework for the main principles guiding gender-sensitive research. \nWe will explore the importance of incorporating gender perspectives at different stages of the research process\, from research design and methodology to the analysis\, interpretation\, and dissemination of results. The seminar will also highlight current European policies and frameworks that promote gender equality in research institutions\, including Gender Equality Plans and the integration of the gender dimension in research proposals\, with the aim of supporting researchers in integrating gender perspectives into their scientific work. \n  \nThis seminar aligns with the objectives of the scientific outreach and culture component outlined in the Severo Ochoa project (CEX2020-001007-S\, funded by MCIN/AEI/10.13039/501100011033). In addition to scientific excellence\, this project highlights the center’s commitment to a strong program of training and outreach activities with high social impact. In this context\, organizing training activities on equality\, diversity\, and inclusion helps to reinforce the role of the IFT as an institution committed to social responsibility and the continuous improvement of the scientific environment. This seminar provides tools to analyze the structural barriers present in the scientific field\, particularly in STEM disciplines such as theoretical physics\, aligning with the objectives of attracting and retaining diverse talent that foster an inclusive scientific environment.

SUMMARY:2nd EDI Training: 'Beyond law: Invisible Barriers to Women’s Access to Public Life'
DESCRIPTION:Speaker: Soledad Escobar Villegas \nPhD in Political Science and García Pelayo Research Fellow at the Centre for Political and Constitutional Studies\, Ministry of the Presidency (Spain). \nAbstract: Over the last decades\, Western societies has introduced significant legislative changes aimed at promoting gender equality and increasing the representation of women in decision-making positions. However\, legal progress does not always translate into equal participation in practice. \nThis seminar will examine the gender representation gap in politics and society by distinguishing between formal legislative advances and the structural constraints and internal dynamics within political and social environments that continue to limit women’s access to the public sphere. The session will analyze patterns of underrepresentation and explore factors such as unequal career progression\, workplace cultures\, and informal power structures. It adopts an intersectional approach\, considering not only gender but also women’s ethnic and cultural backgrounds. The aim is to encourage students to critically assess how social and institutional systems shape women’s representation. \nThis seminar aligns with the objectives of the scientific outreach and culture component outlined in the Severo Ochoa project (CEX2020-001007-S\, funded by MCIN/AEI/10.13039/501100011033). SUMMARY:Dragon School: cosmic-ray theory\, phenomenology and beyond
DESCRIPTION:This school is intended to provide an overview about a variety of topic centered around the problem of cosmic-ray transport in the Galaxy and non-thermal diffuse emissions. We will provide both dedicated seminars and hands-on sessions on the modeling and computation of cosmic-ray propagation and the correlated non-thermal emissions in different astrophysical environments. In particular\, the event will feature a detailed presentation of the state-of-the-art theoretical and numerical tools to calculate relevant astro-particle quantities (production of gamma-ray\, radio or neutrino emission\, as well as the signals produced by dark matter)\, especially focused on the broad applicability of the DRAGON2 code. \nThis event will be held at the Institute of Theoretical Physics in Madrid (Spain) from October 8th to October 10th 2025. The organizing committee of the workshop will be composed by the current main developers of the code: Daniele Gaggero (researcher at INFN Pisa)\, Silvio Sergio Cerri (researcher at Lagrange Laboratory – Observatoire Côte d’Azur\, in Nice) and Pedro De la Torre Luque (Juan de la Cierva postdoc at UAM and IFT)\, along with Miguel Ángel Sánchez-Conde (associate professor at UAM and IFT). Event related to the I+D+i project CEX2020-001007-S\, funded by MCIN/AEI/10.13039/501100011033\, and topic framed within the research line Origin and composition of the universe: Astroparticles and Cosmology (Astro/Cosmo). \nThe school will have a duration of three days\, in which the first two days will be dedicated to lectures (during the morning)\, covering cosmic-ray related physics  (astrophysical plasmas\, particle interactions\, computational techniques\, etc) and discussing the status of current observations of Galactic diffuse emissions (radio\, X-ray\, neutrino and gamma-ray diffuse backgrounds) and hands-on sessions (during he afternoon)\, while the third day will be dedicated to a number of invited talks about the use of diffuse emissions for indirect dark matter searches and the DRAGON2 code beyond the study of cosmic-ray propagation. \nSEMINARS: \nMiércoles 08/10/25 a las 15:30h \nSpeaker: Manuel Rocamora \nTitle: “Propagation of cosmic rays and production non-thermal radiations with DRAGON and Hermes” \nAbstract: Cosmic-ray measurements have reached unprecented precision in the last decade. These observations are  challenging our standard intepretation of how cosmic rays generated and how they propagate in the Galaxy. Therefore\, it is crucial to achieve accurate predictions to understand the origin of discrepancies with data. On top of this\, these predictions allow us to infer the non-thermal radiations that cosmic rays produce when they interact with Galactic magnetic fields\, radiation fields and gas. This session is dedicated to provide a detailed overview of the DRAGON and Hermes codes and how they can be used to obtain predictions of the cosmic ray\, gamma-ray\, neutrino and even radio diffuse Galactic fluxes that are correlated. \nJueves 09/10/25 a las 12:45h \nSpeaker: José Alberto Rubiño \nTitulo: Diffuse radio emission \nAbstract: Synchrotron emission from cosmic-ray electrons is a powerful tool for probing both the Galactic magnetic field and the energy spectrum of electrons within our Galaxy. This lecture will cover the fundamental principles of synchrotron radiation\, methods for measuring this emission\, and the current state of observations\, with a focus on measurements in the GHz frequency range.
