A public scientific session was held on April 18 to award Juan Garca-Bellido Capdevila the diploma accrediting his membership in the Royal Academy of Sciences of Spain.
García-Bellido presented a talk on 'The nature of Dark Matter and Dark Energy' during the event. An overview of the cosmological evidence for dark matter and dark energy, as well as a unified scenario that enables them to be described without introducing physics beyond the standard model.

Juan García-Bellido is a professor of theoretical physics at the Autonomous University of Madrid. He has been member of the UAM governing council and director of the Department of Phenomenology and Cosmology of IFT-UAM/CSIC. He has served on the international committee of the ApPEC Particle Astrophysics and Cosmology Theory Panel and as an ASTRONET representative. He focuses on Particle Physics, Cosmological Inflation, Cosmic Radiation Background, Gravitational Waves, Dark Energy and Dark Matter, in the context of Theoretical Cosmology, both of the early Universe and its current evolution. He has an international reputation for his theoretical work on the existence and characteristics of possible primordial black holes, on the generation of gravitational waves from them, as well as on various cosmological topics.
