Daniel González-Cuadra, a researcher at the Institute for Theoretical Physics (IFT UAM-CSIC), has been awarded a Starting Grant from the European Research Council (ERC) to develop new quantum computing strategies for studying systems of fermions, the particles that make up matter. The project aims to develop new ways of programming quantum computers to tackle problems that are currently beyond the reach of classical computing.
González-Cuadra’s Starting Grant is one of four awarded in this call to researchers at the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC). With these results, for the second consecutive year, CSIC has become the Spanish institution hosting the largest number of young researchers pursuing innovative, high-impact research within this European programme.
ERC Starting Grants are aimed at early-career researchers who have demonstrated the potential to establish independent research programmes of excellence. The grants provide up to €1.5 million over five years to support ambitious, frontier research projects.
