• New video from IFT Responde about the Big Bang theory

How do we know that the Big Bang occurred? We have more than just a theory: we have a snapshot of the Universe as it appeared when it was barely 380,000 years old.

In this video, Mikel Martín guides us through the clues that led to the discovery of the cosmic microwave background—an ancient light that still fills the entire sky, allowing us to look directly back at the infancy of the Universe. We will learn how Einstein, Hubble, Gamow, Penzias, and Wilson each contributed pieces to a puzzle that ultimately revealed the hot, dense origin of the Universe. We will explore why this radiation was predicted before it was discovered, how it was detected by accident, and how the COBE and Planck satellites confirmed one of the most remarkable predictions in the history of physics.

The evidence that the Universe had an extremely hot and dense past is out there. We simply had to learn how to look.
