XIII IFT-UAM/CSIC Christmas Workshop
Madrid, 17-19 December 2007

Home   Speakers   Programme   Directions   Organisation   Credits

The main campus of the UAM is located north of Madrid, in the Cantoblanco site on the M-607 motorway. It hosts more than 25,000 students and several leading Spanish research institutes.

Airport → University
  • By taxi: A ride from the airport to the campus takes 15-20 min in good traffic — the fastest option. Cost is around €30.

  • By bus: From Terminal 4 only, you can use a direct bus link to the University. Line 827 runs every 20 min (direction Universidad Autónoma-Tres Cantos) and the trip takes 30 min.

  • By underground+train: From the airport take Metro metrologo line 8 to Nuevos Ministerios station (see the Metro map), then switch to the Cercanías metrologo train system. Lines C1 (direction Alcobendas/SS Reyes), C7 (direction Colmenar Viejo) and C10 (direction Tres Cantos) all take to the campus. Your stop is Cantoblanco Universidad (see the Cercanías map). The whole trip takes around 45 min.

N.B. that the tickets for Metro and Cercanías are similar but different. In both cases you may consider convenient to purchase 10-trip (diez viajes) tickets for your stay. Bus tickets are purchased directly from the driver, who may dislike notes bigger than €5-10.

Airport → Downtown Madrid
  • By underground: From the airport take the Metro metrologo line 8 to Nuevos Ministerios station, where you can switch to other lines or to Cercanías metrologo trains (see above).

  • By taxi: Cost is in the ballpark of €25. Convenient if you carry heavy or bulky luggage.

Downtown Madrid → University
  • By train: Direct Cercanías metrologo trains can be boarded at the stations of Atocha, Recoletos, Nuevos Ministerios and Chamartín. Take lines C1, C7 or C10 northbound (see above).

University transport stops → IFT and Workshop venue
  • From the station or bus stop head for the Sciences building (Facultad de Ciencias; see the campus map). The IFT is located in Módulo C-XVI — from the main entrance hall, take the (long) corridor starting on your right (downstairs) and follow it to the end.

  • The workshop itself will take place in Seminar Room 201, Department of Theoretical Physics — from the main entrance take the corridor on your left to Módulo C-XI.
