(SO) IFT Gabriel Martínez-Pinedo is visiting us

He received his Ph.D. in physics from the Autonomous University of Madrid, Spain, in 1995. After postdoctoral stays at MIT (USA), Aarhus University (Denmark), and the University of Basel (Switzerland), he joined the Institute of Space Sciences in Barcelona (Spain) in 2002 as an ICREA research professor.After moving to the GSI Helmholtzzentrum für Schwerionenforschung in 2005, he joined the Technische Universität Darmstadt as Professor of Theoretical Nuclear Astrophysics.In 2018, he became head of GSI's Department of Theoretical Nuclear Structure and Astrophysics.

His research interests are in Nuclear Astrophysics and explosive environments related to the production of heavy elements by the r process.Since 2015, he has served as PRC Associate Editor.

Among his awards are the Gustav-Hertz Prize of the German Physical Society in 2008, a European Research Council Advanced Grant in 2020, and the Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz Prize of the German Science Foundation in 2022. In 2021, he became a member of the European Academia.
