Dr. Mary K. Gaillard is visiting us Dr. Mary K. Gaillard from LBNL Berkeley is visiting the IFT for the period April 28th to June 3rd, 2016. Her office number is 214. Her research interests include: physics beyond the Standard Model, specially the study of effective field theories from the heterotic string, including supersymmetry breaking, axion physics, the origin of R-parity and the problem of anomaly cancellation.
SO(IFT) Distinguished Prof. Ignacio Cirac Prof. Ignacio Cirac from Max Plank Institute of Quantum Optics Garching is visiting the IFT for the period April 18th to 22nd, 2016, as distinguished Severo Ochoa visiting professor. His office number is B04. He is one of the pioneers of the field of quantum computing and quantum information theory. His joint work with Peter Zoller on ion trap quantum computation opened up the possibility of experimental quantum computation, and his joint work on optical lattices jump started the field of quantum simulation. He has also made seminal contributions in the field of degenerated quantum gases, quantum optics and many body physics. Ignacio Cirac has been granted multiple awards, among them the 2006 Prince of Asturias Award, the BBVA Foundation Frontiers of Knowledge Award in the Basic Sciences category ex aequo with Peter Zoller, and The Franklin Institute's 2010 Benjamin Franklin Medal in Physics (jointly with David J. Wineland and Peter Zoller), and the Wolf Prize in Physics with Peter Zoller in 2013. Since 2001 he has been the Director of the Theoretical Division of the Max Planck Institute of Quantum Optics in Garching, Germany.
Dr. David G. Cerdeño is visiting us Dr. David G. Cerdeño from IPPP, Durham University is visiting the IFT for the period April 4th to 21st, 2016. His office number is 109. His research interests are focused on dark matter.
