Abstract:

This is the first lecture of an introductory course on Machine Learning, as part of the advanced PhD courses at the IFT. After briefly discussing the history and the different learning paradigms,  the plan is to discuss more in detail the idea of supervised and unsupervised learning. The focus will be on the statistical treatment, the most popular models, as well as commenting some existing applications in theoretical physics and other areas of research.
