Abstract:

The anti de Sitter/conformal field theory AdSd+1/CFTd correspondence relates the dynamics of ten-dimensional
string theory to that of a d-dimensional quantum field theory. For the best understood examples and in a
certain regime, the correspondence is in fact triangular as there is a third leg involved in it: an effective
description in terms of maximal gauged supergravity in (d+1)-dimensions. In this talk, I will review the recent
discovery of a (somewhat unexpected) AdS4/CFT3 triangular relation between massive IIA strings, three-dimensional Chern-Simons theories and maximal four-dimensional gauged supergravity.
