Abstract:

In this seminar, I will entertain the possibility that new physics is hiding in the form of feebly interacting particles, i.e. light particles which interact only very weakly with the known ones. These "dark sectors" are natural extensions of the Standard Model which can help explain the origin of neutrino masses, the nature of dark matter, and the baryon asymmetry of the Universe. Due to being typically long-lived, feebly interacting particles require unusual search strategies. I will describe several ongoing or proposed experiments aiming to probe them — placing particular emphasis on the need to go beyond simplified benchmarks, and I will discuss how to characterise the particle’s properties, should one be eventually discovered.
