Abstract:

In this particular occasion the SPLE-Club will take place in the Red Seminar room. The plan is

11:30 - 12:00  discussion of papers

12:00 - 13:00  seminar by G. Aldazábal  "Probing winding sector with Double Field Theory"

Abstract:

The presence of windings is a distinctive feature of String theory. It is associated to the fact that a string can wrap along a cycle while a particle cannot.   A dramatic consequence associated to the presence of windings is that, for certain values of internal radii,  an enhanced gauge symmetry appears. This gauge theory cannot be obtained as a compactification of the effective  supergravity theory in higher dimensions. We will show that Double Field Theory, a field theory proposal to incorporate string T duality as a symmetry, can provide a description of the enhancing phenomena.

ERC-SPLE organizes a bi-weekly journal club, the SPLE-club, in which IFT members and visitors interested in string model building and related topics gather to discuss recent papers, new results, and enjoy interesting expositions by participants.
