In this talk we discuss the construction of a broad class of asymptotic conditions for the gravitational field in three dimensions that reproduce the properties of the Ablowitz-Kaup-Newell-Segur (AKNS) integrable system. This implies the geometric realization of e.g. the Korteweg de-Vries (KDV), modified KDV, Sine-Gordon and non-linear Schrödinger equations, among others. We study the asymptotic symmetry algebra and integrability properties of the canonical charges associated with these boundary conditions. We show the existence of 3-dimensional black holes in this framework.
