Self-interacting dark matter (SIDM) has been proposed as a possible solution to accommodate observations of small scale structure problems such as the core vs cusp problem. However, such models typically face strong constraints from BBN and direct detection experiments. We discuss how these constraints may be evaded in models of inelastic dark matter and find the regions of the parameter space that solve the small scale structures at the same time as the strong bounds are evaded.
