Abstract:

Compact dark matter objects, like primordial black holes, are proposed to at least partially explain the Dark Matter composition. Gravitational microlensing has been one of the main methods able to test this hypothesis and has been used to probe the Dark Matter in the Milky Way. I will present an overview of microlensing searches so far, in particular, the limits based on the non-detection of low-mass compact objects in surveys like OGLE and EROS. I will then focus on the opportunities arising from the Gaia space mission and its microlensing searches. Gaia's unique astrometric time-series data will yield complete solutions to microlensing events, allowing us to probe the low- and high-mass ends of the dark lens mass distributions in the Milky Way.
