Fifth meeting in a series where PhD students of physics talk about their research. We want to create a friendly atmosphere where the youngest researchers can practice giving a talk about their work. For this reason, seniors are supposed not(!) to attend.
Javier Martín will talk about Tensor Networks and Gravity:
In the last decade, holography has provided a geometrical understanding of some quantum information properties of field theories. Besides of being a useful calculational tool, it has been suggested that entanglement might actually play a fundamental role in the very existence of a smooth spacetime as an emergent concept. Among the ideas in this field lies that of Holographic Tensor Networks. In this talk I will review some of the main features of these constructions and propose some toy models for gravity.

Recently people have studied the asymptotic symmetry group of the horizon of black holes and found that it contains an infinite-dimensional group called “supertranslations”. It has been conjectured that this could be relevant in solving the information loss paradox. We will follow an alternative approach to this group which has the advantage of being coordinate independent, contrary to what has been done in the literature. Then, we will see how the horizon supertranslations are in fact gauge redundancies, so that they cannot be associated to physical microstates of the black hole.
