Abstract:

Neutrinos are copiously produced in the interior of proto-neutron stars and crucial in their evolution, therefore making these compact objects ideal sites to test new neutrino interactions. In particular, the effect of new interactions in the neutrino sector can affect supernova (SN) neutrino signals, providing a tool to constrain specific models when we compare these effects with the observed neutrino flux from the SN 1987A.

In this talk, I will analyse the effect on the SN neutrino flux duration of neutrino-nucleon and neutrino-antineutrino interactions via new light gauge bosons in the core of proto-neutron stars. I will show the bounds that we derived for some well-motivated scalar and vector mediated models based on the enhancement of the neutrino burst durantion due to new neutrino-nucleon interactions. After this, I will focus on the effect of new neutrino-antineutrino interactions producing the light boson mediator on-shell. Arguing that, for long-lived mediators, these kind of processes, followed by the subsequent decay of the mediator into neutrinos inside the star, can significantly reduce the duration of the neutrino burst, we rule out new areas of the parameter space of the U(1)Lμ-Lτ model.
