New edition of IFT - IAIFI exchange program on academic visits
  • The main goal of the program is to foster synergies between the two Machine Learning (ML) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) groups and help stimulate further activities in the future.
  • There is an informal call with a deadline January 20th, 2024 for proposals for visits taking place in 2024.

The Institute for Theoretical Physics  (IFT) and the NSF AI Institute for Artificial Intelligence and Fundamental Interactions (IAIFI) have agreed to conduct an exchange program on academic visits between the two institutes, to explore Machine Learning (ML) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) applications in theoretical physics.

The main goal of the program, which is financed by the Severo Ochoa grant, is to foster synergies between the two ML-AI groups and help stimulate further activities in the future.

As part of the program, there will be one incoming (IAIFI to IFT) and one outgoing (IFT to IAIFI) visitor per academic year. Due to budget constraints and the different costs of living, visitors to the IFT will stay up to 21 days, while visitors to IAIFI can stay up to 14 days, approximately.

Outgoing:

For IFT to IAIFI visits, a brief (less than 1 page) proposal/memoria to justify the visit (detailing the plan of the proposed activities etc) will be required. In case of more than one proposal, a selection will be made based on priority and the suggested agendas for the activities.

For this exchange program we set an informal call with a deadline of January 20th, 2024 for proposals for visits taking place in 2024.

Incoming:

For IAIFI to IFT visits, if you are willing to collaborate with IAIFI people and want to be listed as a potential host please contact us, also mentioning the topic you would want to work on. The list of interested people will be sent to IAIFI. The local host will also help them plan the trip and the various activities (seminars, etc).

In both cases, only requests from experienced researchers (postdoc and above) will be considered.

To submit a proposal to visit IAIFI or to declare your interest to be a host or for further inquiries, please contact Savvas Nesseris (savvas.nesseris@csic.es) and Juan Antonio Aguilar Saavedra (ja.a.s@csic.es).

About IAIFI

The NSF AI Institute for Artificial Intelligence and Fundamental Interactions is one of the inaugural NSF AI research institutes. The IAIFI is advancing physics knowledge – from the smallest building blocks of nature to the largest structures in the Universe – and galvanizing AI research innovation. The IAIFI is a collaboration of both physics and AI researchers at MIT, Harvard, Northeastern, and Tufts.
