We are bringing the best science to the streets in a massive event that will take place at Espacio Fundación Telefónica. The 2024 European Researchers' Night will be celebrated on Friday, September 27th, downtown Madrid. Here is all the information you need.
Volunteers are still welcome!
If you would like to participate in the event, send an email to comunicacion@ift.csic.es
From 11 AM to 1:30 PM, we will host a large science fair at Espacio Fundación Telefónica: we'll have our famous "Science Cart," explore the secrets of glass and ceramics, discover surprising superconductivity, play with catalysts, hydrogen fuel cells, and the periodic table, and experience the antioxidant power of fruit firsthand.
Of course, our Escape Road: a la búsqueda de mujeres Nobel y no Nobel. In this scavenger hunt, students will have fun while learning the names, work, and history of great female scientists from around the world.
Applications for spots will open on September 16th at 9 AM: there will be 40 spots for Primary students and 80 for Secondary (from 9th grade to 12th grade).
Check out the following links for the workshop programs for Primary and Secondary students.
At 5 PM, and until 8 PM, we will open the doors of our science fair at Espacio Fundación Telefónica to welcome everyone who wants to come and learn about the science we do at CSIC in the most fun way possible. We'll have stands (check them here) where you can walk from one to another, seeing and experimenting with our research staff and all that we have to share. Additionally, we will schedule closed-door workshops (check them here) with set times and limited capacity to train our X-ray vision, extract DNA, explore plant biotechnology, learn about algae as an alternative food, and experience the antioxidant power of fruit. The exact schedule will be announced in September.
This year, as a new feature, we will have a fun Science Stand-up Contest: at 5 PM we open the doors for the first edition of this scientific joke contest where, just like in any good experiment... we don't know what might happen. The first session will be at 5:30 PM and the second at 7:00 PM. Each edition will have different contestants: staff from ten CSIC centers will compete, and only one person (or team) can win in each time slot. Who will present science in the funniest way? The audience will decide using the infallible "applause meter." There will be laughter, and very likely, tears (of laughter).
Entry to the science fair, workshops, and stand-up contests will be free until capacity is reached, so we recommend arriving early to secure your spot.
