Abstract:

After the paper discussion, our guest Giorgio Leone will give a talk on "Anomaly constraints in 6d Supergravity and String vacua".

"Anomalies in six dimensions impose severe constraints on the landscape of supergravity theories admitting a UV completion. Although the role played by traditional local and global anomalies has been extensively exploited, recent results suggest that non-perturbative anomalies arising from topology change, the so-called Dai-Freed anomalies, should be cancelled as well. However, a systematic analysis of the latter is still lacking since the relevant bordism group and its generators are unavailable at present, but, nevertheless, it is still possible to focus on allowed backgrounds in which the anomaly theory is known to see whether further constraints arise.

In this talk I will present how the cancellation of global anomalies of the Dai-Freed type impose additional conditions to be satisfied by the low energy supergravity theories with simply laced and abelian gauge groups, in presence of at most one tensor multiplet. Furthermore, I will show how such anomalies are cancelled in the Gepner orientifold model  with no tensor multiplets and in heterotic theories with and without supersymmetry."
