Abstract:

After the paper discussion, we will have a talk by our guest Xingyang Yu on "Generalized Global Symmetries and Branes"

"Global symmetries play a central role in the study of quantum field theories (QFTs). In many cases, for a D-dimensional QFT, the global symmetries and their anomalies are capture by a (D+1)-dimensional theory (usually a topological field theory), known as symmetry theory or symmetry topological field theory (SymTFT). In this talk, I will show for QFTs admitting string theory realization, the SymTFTs are derived from the dimensional reduction of the associated supergravity. Furthermore, topological operators in the SymTFT which generating various global symmetries are given by the topological sector of branes. Explicit example of 4D QFTs from D3-brane engineering will be discussed to illustrate the idea."
