The hydrodynamic derivative expansion fails due to longtime tails. This is actually a sub-leading effect in systems with an underlying large-N field theory. As a result, the hydrodynamic derivative expansion appears to be well-defined and convergent in these systems. We discuss how the longtime tails affect this convergence by constructing a hydrodynamic Schwinger-Keldysh EFT for the SYK chain.
