Abstract:

In the context of holography the membrane paradigm is often associated to the possibility of extracting information about the low energy observables of the dual theory by looking at the near-horizon fluctuations.

In order to do this one needs to have properly defined membrane observables and matching conditions from the horizon to the boundary data. Such constructions rely on the existence of Wald charges associated to the bulk gauge symmetries. We discuss how these can get modified if the dual theory is anomalous (connecting to the last talk by Guillermo) and how the relevant physics emerges through near horizon hydrodynamics.
