Abstract:

ERC-SPLE organizes a bi-weekly journal club, the SPLE-club, in which IFT members and visitors interested in string model building and related topics gather to discuss recent papers, new results, and enjoy interesting expositions by participants.

For this instalment, we also have Dr. Ander Retolaza (DESY Hamburg) as special guest, discussing his recent work:

Title: Towards de Sitter from 10D

Abstract: In this talk I will provide a 10D picture of one of the best known mechanisms to construct 4d de Sitter vacua in String Theory, known as KKLT. This mechanism relies on the inclusion of anti-D3-brane on highly warped regions of the internal space once all the moduli have been stabilized. The 10D picture shows that the simplest KKLT vacua with a single Kähler modulus stabilized by a gaugino condensate cannot be uplifted to de Sitter. Instead, the uplift flattens out due to backreaction on the volume modulus, resulting in vacua that are always AdS. However, a simple generalization of the previous approach based on racetrack scenarios will be shown to provide a way out and allow for anti-D3-brane uplifts to 4d de Sitter where such backreaction effects can be safely neglected.
