Last June, the North American Nanohertz Gravitational Wave Observatory (NANOGrav) announced evidence of very low-frequency gravitational waves, with periods ranging from years to decades. By gathering data from 68 pulsars over a 15-year period, NANOGrav was able to time the pulsar signals, which act as detectors of low-frequency gravitational waves. These low-frequency signals provide key evidence for the existence of a stochastic background of gravitational waves, a sort of "hum" that fills the universe.
