Martín de los Rios, new postdoctoral researcher at IFT Martín de los Rios obtained his degree in Astronomy at Universidad Nacional de Córdoba in Argentina. After that, he obtained his PhD at the same University, focusing on topics related with the application of machine learning techniques to different astronomical problems. From 2019 to 2021, he was a postdoctoral fellow at the ICTP-SAIFR in São Paulo (Brazil), where he conducted research on the estimation of dark matter galaxy profiles with deep learning methods. His main research interest are cosmology, astro-particles and machine learning/statistical methods. Dr. de los Rios comes to the IFT as a new postdoctoral fellow to work on dark matter direct detection as part of the superCDMS collaboration.
Rafael Alves Batista, new "La Caixa" Junior Leader researcher at IFT Rafael Alves Batista obtained his PhD from the University of Hamburg (Germany) in 2015, after concluding his undergraduate and master studies at the State University of Campinas (Brazil). He was previously a Radboud Excellence Fellow at Radboud University Nijmegen (Netherlands), and held postdoctoral positions at the University of São Paulo (Brazil), and at the University of Oxford (United Kingdom). His primary research activities are in the fields of astroparticle physics and high-energy astrophysics, including: cosmic rays, gamma rays, and neutrinos; dark matter; cosmic magnetic fields. His secondary interests include topics in the foundations of physics and astrobiology. Dr. Alves Batista comes to IFT as a "La Caixa" Junior Leader, where he work on the project "Multimessenger Probes of the High-Energy Universe".
Sebastian Grieninger, new postdoctoral researcher at IFT Sebastian Grieninger obtained his PhD in 2020 from the Friedrich-Schiller University of Jena, Germany under the supervision of Prof. Martin Ammon. During his PhD, he was granted a Fulbright and a DAAD scholarship to visit Prof. Andreas Karch at the University of Washington, Seattle (USA) for 19 months. After his PhD, he was granted a DAAD research grant to join the group of Prof. Anton Rebhan at the Vienna University of Technology in Austria for 6 months. His research focuses on Non-equilibrium dynamics in Holography; in particular the effects of chiral anomalies and (spontaneously) broken spacetime symmetries on the transport behavior of strongly coupled field theories as well as quantum information-theoretic aspects and swampland bounds in de Sitter.
Alejandro Vilar López is visiting us Alejandro Vilar López, currently a FPU PhD student under the supervision of José Edelstein at the Instituto Galego de Física de Altas Enerxías - Universidade de Santiago de Compostela, is visiting the IFT until March 31st 2021. His main line of research focuses on holography and quantum gravity, as well as higher-curvature corrections to General Relativity. In 2016, Alejandro already visited the IFT as a JAE-Intro fellow under the supervision of Jose L. F. Barbón, and the aim of this new visit will be to understand better what the AdS/CFT correspondence can teach us about reconstructing bulk information from a boundary perspective.
